[NOTE: The Inland Printer Vol. 87, No. 5 (August, 1931): 95. has a brief note, illustrated, on the introduction of the "Monotype Junior Material Maker." 2pt to 12pt strip material. [TO DO: scan this]
The brochure "Monoype Material Making Machine" was published in the US without copyright notice at a time when such notice was required. I believe therefore that it passed into the public domain upon original publication.
