This is a pretty straightforward improved mold. The patent was assigned to the Ludlow Typograph Company, but I'm not sure that such a mold was ever offered. It might have been difficult to accomodate in a conventional Elrod machine because it is of variable width.
The mold basically has two characteristics: (1) It is of variable width (and intended to allow width alteration in the field, as opposed to the conventional practice of using a separate factory-assembled mold for each strip width). (2) It employs water cooling integral with the mold itself (not the mold housing, as in the regular Elrod).
The patent also specified a taper for the internal mold channel. No such taper is mentioned in earlier Elrod patents, and I'm not sure whether or not it was present on actual Elrod molds.
