The original Hershey glyph set stopped at glyph no. 3926 (Lombardic lowercase "z"), and logically could have extended through glyph no. 4000 to get to the next round thousand. The glyph ranges shown here have all been added later. The glyphs in them are quite diverse, and do not in general fall within the four organizational categories used for earlier glyphs (Cartographic/Indexical/Normal, Uniplex/Duplex/Triplex, etc.)
Skip 186 for no other reason than to make room for range 185 (Pointing Hands) in Table 2.
The Hershey glyphs produced and distributed by Dr. Hershey are clearly in the public domain. The glyphs produced by others and distributed with the GNU Plotutils are, to the best of my understanding, also in the public domain. The glyph data as transformed and used here by me remain in the public domain as well.
